Communities flourish when we move beyond membership and embrace stewardship.
Throughout my life, I have been drawn to communities that bring people together around a shared purpose. Some focused on professional growth. Others centered on leadership, service, education, social impact, or lifelong learning. While their missions differed, they shared a common truth: communities and their members thrive when people choose to contribute more than they consume.
Over time, I came to realize that the strongest communities are not built by organizations alone. They are sustained by individuals willing to invest their time, talents, perspectives, and care to help others succeed. Stewardship is not about titles or recognition. It is about taking responsibility for something larger than ourselves and leaving it stronger than we found it.
In every community I have joined, I have sought opportunities to contribute. Yet the gifts I have received have often been just as meaningful. New friendships, new perspectives, new challenges, and new opportunities have stretched my thinking and expanded my understanding of what is possible. The strongest communities change not only the organizations they serve, but the people who participate in them.
Whether facilitating a small business circle, developing mentoring programs, leading committees, supporting nonprofit organizations, or helping individuals navigate personal and professional challenges, I have witnessed the power of people coming together in service of a common purpose. There are times when we lead and times when we follow. Times when we teach and times when we learn. In every case, we leave a little richer than when we arrived.
The communities below have each shaped my understanding of stewardship in different ways. Together, they continue to influence how I lead, contribute, share, support, and grow while helping illuminate the path for others.
