Judy Wicks will share her story of her crusade and commitment to unite urban and rural communities, build in sustainable local economies, and source and deliver nutritious food. She saw a problem, created community, and made an immeasurable contribution which changed the world. Over the course of her career she has continued to seek knew causes, founding several nonprofits along the way.
Come join with Judy to learn how each person has the power to make a difference and how one cause leads to more. She will elaborate on her unexpected journey to become a successful community leader and activist. She will highlight how building sustainable local economies and strengthening unity among urban and rural communities is the key to balancing community wealth and mitigating and preparing for climate change.
Author, activist and entrepreneur, Judy Wicks is best known as founder of Philadelphia’s iconic White Dog Cafe in 1983, a pioneer in the local food movement. Her current focus is All Together Now PA, which she founded in 2019, with a mission to unite urban and rural communities to build resilient, self-reliant regional economies to both mitigate and prepare for climate change, while increasing equality and community wealth. Judy runs the Circle of Aunts & Uncles, a micro loan fund for local entrepreneurs without access to family & friends stage capital, which she founded in 2015. She is the founder of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia and cofounder of the national Business Alliance for Local Living Economies (BALLE) in 2001 (now called Common Future). She is author of Good Morning, Beautiful Business, published in 2013, which won a national gold medal for business leadership and has been translated into Chinese and Korean. Her numerous local and national awards include the Impact Award for Economic Justice from Social Venture Network, Women Chefs and Restaurateurs Lifetime Achievement Award, and the James Beard Foundation Humanitarian of the Year Award.
